Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology

Thomas Jefferson School for Science and Technology is a Governor’s regional school offering a comprehensive college preparatory program emphasizing the sciences, mathematics, and technology.  Any Arlington County student enrolled in grade eight may apply, and if selected, would attend TJHSST tuition free.  Selection is highly competitive based on the results of and aptitude test, teacher recommendations, grades and other information. Eligibility Requirements

  • Apply in 8th grade for 9th grade enrollment
  • Algebra I or higher in 8th Grade
  • 3.0 GPA in core classes (and language) for 7th grade.

Important Dates for 2017 – 2018 Winter Round

  • September 4-29 – Applications Available
  • September 12 @ 8:15 AM – Representatives from TJHSST visit Swanson to present to perspective students about the school and the admission process

  • Saturday, November 18 – Winter Round Test Day
    • Friday, December 1 – Accommodations Test Day
  • January 19, 2018 – Applicants receive semifinalist pool notification through online system
  • February 2, 2018 – Entry by Applicants of Teacher Recommendation Information Deadline
  • February 3, 2018 – Student Information Sheet/Essay administration
  • February 10, 2018 – Inclement Weather date for Student Information Sheet/Essay administration
  • February 12, 2018 – Teacher Recommendations due
  • April 30, 2018 – Final admissions decisions posted
