Course Selection for 9th Grade

All students received a Course Request Form (CRF) from their RA teacher. This is the form students will use to pick classes for next year. Completed CRFs are due to the RA teacher by February 16.

If students review their teacher recommendations and have questions, they may speak to their teachers. Students may select courses other than those they were recommended for if their family feels they should pursue something different. Please remember teacher took great consideration with their recommendations.

If students have questions about what classes to take, we encourage them to send a Canvas message to their counselor or come to Counseling. Students and families can refer to the Program of Studies for course descriptions. https://catalog.apsva.us/

Below are links to the videos and presentations from the high school counselors’ presentations on 2/1 and 2/2:

Washington-Liberty

If students were accepted into the IB program, they may see their counselor for a W-L course request form. If students were accepted into Arlington Tech, they should turn in their original CRF and will receive a new one on 2/20 when the Tech counselors visit Swanson.

If a student is going to WL, they don’t need to complete applications for the Publications electives. If a student is going to Yorktown and want to sign up for any of the Publications electives, they will need to fill out an application. If a student selects Lit Mag, Newspaper, Broadcast, or Yearbook on their CRF for Yorktown, they must complete one of these applications by 2/16:

Literary Magazine

Newspaper

Broadcast Journalism
