Cell Phone and Yondr Pouch Policies

RULES AND PROCEDURES for Yondr Cell Phone Pouches –  2024-2025

What happens when students arrive at school each morning?

  • Before entering the building, students will turn off their phone and smartwatch. Students will unlock their pouch with the magnet base and place their phone(s) in their YONDR pouch. Any additional personal devices (e.g. other cell phones, fake phone, burner phones, etc.) must remain at home or will be subject to confiscation and/or consequences if seen during the school day.
  • Grade 6 – will enter through Door B1 and place their phone inside the pouch and secure it in front of school staff. If the item is secured in a pouch prior to entering the building, the student must show a staff member.
  • Grade 7- will enter through Door B2 and place their phone inside the pouch and secure it in front of school staff. If the item is secured in a pouch prior to entering the building, the student must show a staff member.
  • Grade 8 – will enter through Door B4 and place their phone inside the pouch and secure it in front of school staff. If the item is secured in a pouch prior to entering the building, the student must show a staff member.

What happens during dismissal when students leave school? 

  • At dismissal students will exit the building in the following flow:
  • Students will exit the building at the nearest door with an unlocking station to their locker or classroom. The exits are at the following locations:
  • Door A10
  • Door B1
  • Door B2
  • Door B4
  • Door C7

What happens if students arrive late or leave early to/from school?

  • Students who arrive late will lock their YONDR pouch as they enter the main office through DOOR A11.  Students who leave early will be able to unlock their YONDR pouch in the main office.

What happens if students loses or damages their YONDR pouch?

  • If a student damages their pouch, school staff will collect the phone/pouch and send it to the front office for the remainder of the school day. If a student damages or loses their pouch, the student will be charged a $30 replacement fee.
  • EXAMPLE OF DAMAGE POUCH
  • Deep scratches on the globe and in the green ring around it
  • Intentional pen marks on the inside of the pouch
  • Bent pins
  • Pin and button not fully recessing, due to pin damage

What happens when I arrive at school?

  • I will turn off my phone and my smartwatch.
  • I will unlock my YONDR pouch using an unlocking device and place it in the YONDR pouch.
  • I will close and lock my pouch in front of the APS staff.
  • I will place my pouch in my string bag/tote/carrybag/purse/locker until the end of the day.

What happens when I get to class?

  • Your YONDR pouch stays in your string bag, tote, carry bag, purse, locker

What happens at the end of the day?

  • You will unlock your YONDR pouch  remove your phone and put your pouch in your backpack. Students must bring their pouch to school each day.

Can I use my phone during after school activities?

  • The pilot program only applies to instructional time. You may use your phone when participating in after school activities unless you are otherwise directed not to use your phone.

What happens if I forget to unlock my YONDR pouch after I leave school for the day?

  • You may return to school to unlock your phone before the last late bus leaves. Otherwise, you will have to wait until the next morning’s arrival.

What are the consequences for my devices being collected by an adult during the school day?

  1. First Infraction: My device is taken and stored in the front office. The warning is recorded. I will pick it up at the end of the day.
  2. Second Infraction: My device is taken and stored in the front office. Admin will call home and my parent/guardian has to come pick up the device from 8:00 AM-3:30 PM, the behavior referral is recorded.
  3. Third Infraction: My device is taken and stored in the front office. Admin will call home and my parent/guardian has to come pick up my device from 8:00 AM-3:30 PM, the behavior referral is recorded and I will serve after school detention.
  4. Fourth Infraction: My device will be taken and stored in the front office. Admin will call home. The behavior will be recorded and my administrator will hold a meeting with my parents and me. 
  5. Fifth Infraction: My device will be taken and stored in the front office. My parent/guardian has to come pick up my device from 8:00 AM-3:30 PM, the behavior referral is recorded and I will serve Admirals Academy and I will receive a Cell Phone Behavior Contract Agreement. 

All consequences listed above reflect appropriate disciplinary actions aligned with APS Policy

What if I forget my YONDR pouch but I don’t want to violate the rules outlined above?

  • Putting my YONDR pouch in my backpack each day after dismissal allows me to never forget it.
  • Having my phone/devices in my YONDR pouch allows me to keep my device with me all day.
  • If I forget my YONDR pouch, I can get a replacement pouch for the day at the front office. I must return the replacement pouch at the end of the day.
  • If I consistently forget my pouch, my phone will be collected and an administrator will call home and I will serve one of the infractions listed above. Parents/guardians will be notified, and a replacement pouch will be provided at the student’s expense.

You will sign beside your name on your STAR teacher Roster to indicate that you have read and understand the rules and procedures.
