  • Students that have completed the guitar project for Technology Education are welcome to a lunch session February 19 through February 21. The session is to tune and practice playing the guitar. You may take your guitar home on Friday February 22. Students that completed the guitar are congratulated for the initiative and motivation that they showed to complete the first semester project!
  • Show your love when you join us for a Swanson Chorus Dining Night at Old Dominion Pizza Company on Tue Feb 26th from 5-9pm. A percentage of all dine in, carry out, delivery, or online orders will be donated to the chorus! Their menu features a tantalizing array of pizzas, sandwiches, salads & desserts. Old Dominion Pizza Company is located at 4514 Lee Highway in the Lee Heights shopping center. No flyer is required, and online orders may be placed at http://www.olddominionpizza.com/.
  • Unfortunately, all game clubs will be cancelled today during lunch. We will see you next week!
  • Attention swimmers! The first practice of the swim season is on Tuesday, February 19th. We will be meeting in the large after school to get the bus to go to WL. You will need to sign in with either Ms. Samuel or Ms. Williams when we are in the gym.  Those that don’t have a physical on file or haven’t turned in their other forms will NOT be allowed on the bus for practice.  If you do not have room in your locker for your swim bag, you can drop it off in the morning in Ms. Williams’s room.
  • Attention 8th grade students: As a reminder, your Course Request Forms are due to the Counseling Office by this Friday, February 15th. If you were accepted into the IB program, please pick up a W-L card from the Counseling Office. If you have any questions, stop by the Counseling Office to talk to Ms. Reardon or Ms. Wilkes.
  • Interested in earning service hours? Swanson Middle School has partnered with the Westover Library to create an opportunity for Swanson students to give back to the community. If you are interested in volunteering please fill out the Volunteer Google forum located on Canvas and the Swanson website. If you have any further questions see Ms. Elliott in Counseling.
  • Attention students interested in joining the dive team! Practices will begin on February 19th at Yorktown pool. All interested participants should already have four dives in their repertoire. Make sure your physical is on file, and sign up on the sheets near the cafeteria stairs. We will meet in the small gym after school on Tuesday February 19th to await the bus!
  • Play rehearsal reminder:
    • Friday:  Tech Build Evening is tonight from 6-9pm, auditorium. Students must come with an adult.
  • In honor of Valentine’s Day, Wavelength’s latest writing contest challenges you to write an ode devoted to anyone or anything. What’s an ode? It’s a poem that expresses strong emotion for a person or object, often using exaggeration and humor. Share a Google doc with Ms. McFarlane (leah.mcfarlane@apsva.us) by February 20 for a chance to win a fabulous prize and get published on Wavelength’s online lit mag.
  • Shopping on Amazon and looking to help Swanson at the same time? Click this link and up to 7% of your purchase total will be donated to the school! Bookmark it for later, or you can always find it on the front page of the Swanson website. We appreciate your help!
